Two Quick and Easy Summer Fruit Recipes for Getting Zzzz’s

At Slumbr, we’re excited summer is just around the corner for the sun, warmth -- and all the refreshing fruit that ripens during the season. We especially love fruit that helps us get to sleep, including honeydew melon and watermelon.

Honeydew Melon
Honeydew is nutrient rich with potassium and vitamins A, C and B complex (including vitamin B6). Vitamin B6 helps to produce serotonin, a hormone and neurotransmitter that aids in stabilizing mood and promoting healthy sleep patterns. Increased levels of serotonin make the brain less sensitive to disruptions, like late-night noises you might encounter during sleep.

Watermelon
Watermelon is over 90% water, supporting balanced hydration -- a critical factor to quality sleep. Watermelon consists of polysaccharide carbohydrates, a natural carbohydrate that also helps the body produce serotonin.

We discovered two delicious and unique ways to enjoy honeydew and watermelon at The Picky Eater, a popular healthy food and lifestyle blog by food writer and health coach Anjali Shah. The Watermelon Salad and Chili-Rubbed Melon are simple recipes that could be whipped up on a summer day when you’re looking for a light and refreshing treat. Both recipes are sweet and savory; the Watermelon Salad can be served with cucumber or jicama, and the chili powder rub on the honeydew offers a nice kick.
